Welcome to the official website of the Department of Public Safety (formerly the Georgia State Patrol) Historical Society!  Our online store is now available for you to purchase merchandise.  Proceeds are used to benefit the Historical Society.  If you have a suggestion for an item to be included in the store, please let us know!   

You can now make a tax-deductible donation to the DPS Historical Society via this website.  The DPS Historical Society, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  Your donation will go to further the projects of the DPS Historical Society, such as the Scholarship Program. Donations can be made in multiples of $10 or $25; Just select the Product ($10 or $25) and then choose the quantity to reflect the total donation you wish to make (for example, to donate $100.00, select a quantity of 4 in the $25.00 donation product; to donate $20.00. select a quantity of 2 in the $10.00 donation product).

SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT: 2023-2024 DEADLINE TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON)

The Georgia Department of Public Safety Historical Society, Inc. (GDPSHS), formerly Georgia State Patrol Historical Society, Inc., will be accepting applications soon for the 2023-2024 academic year.  GDPSHS awards one-time scholarship(s) on an annual basis to students seeking to continue their education at an accredited 4 or 2-year college/university; or a technical, trade, or vocational school. The scholarship amount varies each year depending on how much funding is available and how many qualified applicants are chosen. Scholarships will only be awarded once to each recipient. Awardees will not be eligible for any additional scholarships/renewals.

Applicants must:

  • Be a child or grandchild of a current Department of Public Safety (DPS) employee (sworn or civilian) or DPS retiree in good standing.

  • Be a current high school senior or currently enrolled in an accredited 4 or 2-yearcollege/university; or a technical, trade, or vocational school.

  • Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher (based on a 4.0 scale).

  • Write a personal statement explaining how this scholarship will help you achieve your future career goals (250 words minimum; Times New Roman or Arial; 12 pt.; 1.5 spaces between each line).

Applications must be received no later than April 1, 2021. No application will be accepted for consideration for the current year if received after that date. Mail completed application form, personal statement, and an official copy of a current school transcript to:
